THE UGLY FACE OF INDIAN DEMOCRACY...

Arresting and rearresting was a regular process by cops

Known as IRON LADY, civil rights and political activist from Manipur had begun her hunger strike in year 2000 and ended it in 2016 and is also known as longest HUNGER STRIKER in the world. Having refused food and water for more than 500 weeks is not a joke. Since she is fighting for the public welfare, In 2014, two local political parties had advised her to contest the national election which she had declined. she was denied to vote as Indian laws forbids the person to do so when in confinement on government's order. where as the political leaders in this country ironically can contest election from prison. 

It is notice-worthy that the human rights organization, Amnesty International had declared her as a prisoner of conscience for her non-violent method of protest for public interests. She had been an active member of local peach movement with regard to Human Rights Abuse in Manipur because Indian government had given special powers (AFSPA) to Indian Army to crush dissent voices there and subsequently 5500 people had been killed in political violence between 2005 to 2015. Also, on 2nd November, 2000, ten civilians including an old woman and 18 yrs young boy were shot dead waiting at the bus stop by Assam Rifles, one of the Indian Paramilitary forces, which is widely known as MALOM MASSACRE.

This particular incident triggered Sharmila, who was 28 yrs old at the time, to decide not to eat, drink, comb her hair and look in the mirror in protest of these innocent people's killings. She was arrested and charged with an attempt to commit suicide which was unlawful at that time and Nasogastric Intubation (through nose and throat) was forced on her to keep her alive. 

She later became and Icon of Public resistance. Arrested, released and rearrested, she suffered all these years for her people and look at what she got in return when she realized that the only way out left for her to help her people is to step into politics. She launched a political party, Peoples' Resurgence and Justice Alliance to contest two Assembly constituencies of Khural and Khangabok.  The winner Thoubal, Ibobi Singh received 18,649 votes and Sharmila got mere 90 votes.

इस देश के लोकतंत्र की असली वास्तविकता

जेल में बंद अपराधी ,बलात्कारी,क़ातिल, भ्रष्टाचारी लाखों वोट से जीतते हैं

और देश के लिए त्याग करने वालों को मुश्किल से 90 वोट मिलते हैं

शर्मीला इरोम जिन्होंने अपने प्रदेश के लोगों की जान की हिफाज़त के लिए 16 साल भूख हड़ताल की अपनी तमाम खुशियों ,ख्वाहिशों का त्याग किया उन्के हिस्से में 90 वोट आए इस से ज़्यादा शर्म की बात और क्या होगी इस देश के लोकतंत्र के लिए,

इस देश की लोकतांत्रिक बुद्धिजीवी जनता ने अपराधियों को लाखों वोट देकर और शर्मीला इरोम के हिस्से में सिर्फ 90 वोट देकर एक सन्देश तो साफ़ तौर पर समस्त दुनियां को दे दिया है कि हैं हमें त्यागियों की नहीं अपराधियों की ज़रूरत है

जिस रोज़ शर्मीला इरोम की हार हुई वो दिन इस लोकतान्त्रिक देश के लिए सब से शर्मनाक दिन था  जिसने स्पष्ट कर दिया की हमें सिर्फ़ जुमलेबाजों और अपराधियों की ज़रुरत है और साफ़ तौर पर कह दिया की हमारी नुमाइन्दिगी कोई राष्ट्र भक्त कोई समाज सेवी नहीं करेंगे

हमारी नुमाइन्दिगी सिर्फ़ अपराधी करेंगे
